What we buy
We see a wide range of diamond pieces. Categories include:
- Engagement rings of any era, any setting, and any size. Solitaires, halos, three stone rings, vintage settings, and modern designer rings.
- Wedding bands and eternity bands. Diamond pavé, channel set, and shared prong styles.
- Loose diamonds. Round brilliant, princess, emerald, oval, cushion, pear, marquise, asscher, radiant, and heart cuts. Certified and uncertified.
- Tennis bracelets, diamond necklaces, diamond pendants, and diamond stud earrings.
- Estate and inherited diamond jewelry. Single pieces or full collections.
- Designer and signed diamond jewelry from recognized makers. Boxes and papers help when you have them.
If your piece does not fit one of these categories, bring it in. The evaluation is free and there is no obligation to sell.
How a diamond evaluation works
Walk in any time during business hours. The evaluation happens at our counter, in front of you.
Our jeweler grades the stone using the standard 4Cs framework, which are cut, color, clarity, and carat. Cut is how well the stone returns light. Color is how close to colorless the stone is on the D through Z scale. Clarity is the presence or absence of inclusions visible under 10x magnification. Carat is the weight of the stone, not its visual size. For a deeper read on how the 4Cs translate to dollars, see how diamond evaluations work and the 4Cs that drive diamond price.
When the evaluation is done, the offer is written down. You decide whether to accept, walk away, or come back later. We do not pressure, and we do not talk a stone down to lower the offer.
Certified and uncertified diamonds
Certified and uncertified diamonds are both welcome. Certificates from major gemological labs make the offer tighter and faster because the grading work has already been done. Most of the diamonds we see are not certified, and that is normal. Our jeweler grades uncertified stones in front of you using the same 4Cs framework and explains what each one contributes to the final number.
If your diamond has paperwork from a less recognized lab or an in-store appraisal, we will still review it, but we grade the stone independently because lab standards vary. For more on how rarity and grading drive price, see why diamonds are priced the way they are.
Selling engagement rings
Engagement rings are the diamond piece we see most often. Sometimes the visit follows an upgrade, sometimes an inheritance, sometimes a separation or divorce. We have evaluated many engagement rings, and the conversation is calm and the math is shown.
Our offer reflects the diamond, the setting metal, any side stones, and any designer or maker premium. For a broader read on engagement rings, see our engagement ring page.
Estate and inherited diamonds
For inherited diamond jewelry, the visit can feel personal. There is no pressure to sell during the visit, and a written offer can be taken home to consider. Bring one piece or several boxes. Boxes, papers, and old appraisals help when you have them. If you do not, that is normal and not a problem.
If your visit involves a mix of diamond jewelry and other pieces, our jewelry buyer in Chicago page covers the full range we evaluate at the counter.
Sell vs pawn a diamond
Selling and pawning are two different transactions. When you sell, the diamond becomes ours and you walk out with cash. When you pawn, the diamond becomes collateral on a short term loan, and you can redeem it later. Selling pays more on day one because there is no risk. Pawning lets you keep the piece if you redeem inside the loan window.
Most people who walk in with a diamond already know which one they want. If you are not sure, our decision guide on pawn vs sell covers the trade offs. For a broader view of selling jewelry in Chicago, see the full guide to selling jewelry in Chicago.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need an appointment to sell a diamond?
No. Drop in any time during business hours. If you have a large stone, a full estate, or several diamond pieces, calling ahead helps us set aside time for a thorough evaluation.
Will you buy a diamond without a certificate?
Yes. Certificates from major gemological labs make the offer tighter and faster, but most of the diamonds we see are not certified. Our jeweler grades the stone in front of you using the standard 4Cs framework and explains what each one contributes to the offer.
How is a diamond’s value determined?
The 4Cs, which are cut, color, clarity, and carat, set the grading baseline. The setting metal, side stones, and any designer or maker premium also factor in. The current market for that specific shape and size on the day you visit determines the final offer.
Do you buy engagement rings after a divorce or separation?
Yes. Engagement rings are the diamond piece we see most often. The conversation is calm and the math is shown. There is no pressure to decide during the visit. A written offer can be taken home to consider.
What should I bring to my visit?
A government issued photo ID, the diamond piece itself, and any boxes, certificates, or old appraisals that came with it. None of those documents are required, but they help when they are present.
